Microsoft Office 15 Technical Preview Shows a Metro Touch - gonzalesbeepargang97

Although the Microsoft Government agency 15 Technical Preview is a desktop app in spite of appearance, IT's got Metro running through its veins.

That's the main takeaway from Paul Thurrott's extensive overview of the Microsoft Office 15 Technical Preview. The preview is in private beta, with its users bound to a non-revealing agreement, but Thurrott managed to get a copy of the software and posted lots of screenshots.

To be clear, the variation of Office 15 that Thurrott examined is a desktop app. IT runs in a windowpane connected the desktop and has traditional desktop icons when viewed through and through Windows 8's Metro Commencement screen. (In fact, it has 19 icons, one for each of Office's individual programs and utilities, though Thurrott thinks they'll get cleaned up for the final mathematical product.)

Still, Office 15 has plenty of Metro flavor, direct the use of minimal colors, edged edges and the same baptistery that runs through the touch-optimized side of Windows 8. The "Ribbon," a disinvest of commands first introduced in Situatio 2007, returns in Office 15, just it's obscure aside default option, adding to the software's moderate vibe.

The addition of Metro concepts International Relations and Security Network't nearly esthetics; Office 15 also tries to present extraordinary ideas from Windows 8, such as the power to connect web services such Microsoft's SkyDrive and Chawbacon's Flickr. Office staff 2010 has obscure integration atomic number 3 well, but in Office 15, these network services take more of a central role, with icons for SkyDrive and other Net locations appearing aboard those for the local machine when redemptive and loading files.

Microsoft also tries to accommodate tablet users in the desktop version of Office 15 with a "touch mode" that increases the size of buttons and other elements. Users can also edit Word documents in full screen mode, which should prove helpful when a software keyboard is covering percentage of the screen.

Thurrott didn't drill too deep into features, but has lots of screengrabs of the full Agency suite, which you can ensure out at his blog.

Formally, Microsoft has said little about Office 15. The company has hinted that IT bequeath be a major overhaul, with PJ Hough, vice president of development for Place, calling IT "the most ambitious undertaking yet for the Office Division." Still unknown is whether Microsoft volition release a proper Metro-style app as part of Government agency 15.

Microsoft also hasn't announced a release date for the final reading of Office 15. ZDNet's Mary Jo Foley has according that the ship's company is stressful to refinement Office 15 by class destruction, but the software could slip to 2022. In any vitrine, expect a public beta–and the answers to many more questions revealed–during the summertime.
